An Artist Looking for Other Artist to Help

marketing for artists

I have always been a visual artist.  And although it took a back seat when I became a mom and a teacher, changing my self-image helps me get back right on track.

Now, I have turned myself into this superwoman who can be a mom, an eco-activist, an entrepreneur and an artist all at the same time.

I now have the liberty to embrace my creativity and my passion.  And I’m sending back to the universe what I’ve learned by sharing my stories, hoping I’ll influence other people and artist, motivate them in a away or teach them a thing or two.

One of my dreams is to be able to help artist community to share their visions to the world without selling out, hence the importance of marketing for artist.

A chance meeting: Another lady artist!

It was a privilege to have met Erica Cameron, another artist who also struggle with marketing, like so many artists out there.

We’re artist, we create art works – marketing is the opposite of what art is for us.  For creative people, art is an innate thing, it comes naturally for us to create art – but not the marketing aspect of it!

One must realize the importance of setting goals, of knowing your intentions and using that energy to propel you forward  and manifest that energy into art or whatever it is that you do.

Why marketing for artist is a big deal

Erica and I, being the artists that we are, have to keep our creative channels open, we need to be able to create – to express ourselves, our emotion.

When I became a MOM and had to put my creativity on hold, I realized how important this truly is. I became frustrated by not having the freedom to be creative, and thus became an unhappy, angry and uninspired person. When I was finally able to change my self-image and decided to go back to what I love the most, which is creating arts, I knew instantly, that life is possible.

But then again, we’re artist, we need to create art. We can present it, but we don’t necessarily know how to sell it to the world.  I have an art education, and even completed a Master’s program in Fine Arts – but I lack the business know-how.

I was pretty discouraged seeing other artist biting the bullet just to put their artworks out there.  It’s a common problem among artists.  Either you’ll rely on luck as to who sees or who buys your artwork or take a chance and give 50% to 60% to studio galleries.

Marketing for artist proved to be a challenge, putting ourselves out there to share our visions to the world didn’t come as easy as it sounds.

Superwomen on the move to help other artists!

“We are the super empowered women artists who are going to take the world by storm and become the badasses that we are totally, totally are! And you guys are going to watch it!” – Lisa & Erica

I was able to learn a lot about marketing for artist, blogging, social media, and even personal development.  All of these things have led me to the realization that as an artist I’m also an entrepreneur, and that I was my own product.

Being the artist that we are, we have the best and the worst and will come across as over sensitive.  We just internalize things differently and also put it out into the universe in a different way.  Expectedly not everybody understands that all the time.  Neither do they see things the way we see it.

That’s why I’m here, together with my gal Erica, to help so you can be your own business.  We’ll show you how to let your inner happiness shine through.

Email Marketing Tips For Your Business

Email Marketing Strategy

While it will take hard work and persistence, building an email marketing strategy is an important key to your business’ success. You have to ensure that your efforts are focused on the right audience. If you are talking with the wrong people, your email marketing strategy isn’t working very well for your advantage.  With email marketing, your goal is to get some attention. It may take a few tries to get it exactly right. Stop using a technique if it’s not getting the results you expected. Try a variety of techniques until you find those that work best for your business.

Email Marketing Tips

When following up to your customers via email, you could try following up with some kind of reminder. For example, you could add a “visit today” button onto your ad. In addition, the closing of the postscript could inform your customers to make sure they do not disregard the CTO.

Provide your customers with useful tips or information in each marketing newsletter. Think of the newsletter as an opportunity to demonstrate your expertise in your field. Your customers will trust you more when they see how much you know and will be more likely to buy products or services from you.

Email Marketing Messages

If you want your email marketing messages to be successful, make sure you have permission to send them. If you do not have permission from your recipients, the potential consequences can range from being added to spam filters all the way up to getting blacklisted by Internet service providers themselves.

The emails you send out as part of your marketing campaign should start out with a welcoming, personalized tone. Include the name of the recipient in the subject line and the opening of the message. This will make your customers feel more receptive to your message and be more likely to patronize your business.

email_vector_illustration_with_envelope_and_interface_icons_6823872

If you have images or graphics, put them on the left side of the email message. Make sure that your call to action element is always on this side. Research has documented that this location produces almost double the number of clicks to your product, service or website than placing these elements anywhere else does.

Tailor your emails and landing pages for mobile users as well as those using desktops. Keep in mind that Smartphones have tiny screens that may not be compatible with the way you have your emails formatted. Trim the width so that your emails can be read by users without them having to re-size them.

Have a strong call to action in your email marketing campaign and position it to be seen, offer a clear call to action and deliver it in a way that can’t be missed.

Now that you’ve read this article, apply these tips, and you’re sure to see results. Feel free to experiment with what you’ve learned and develop new strategies of your own email marketing.

Choosing a Greener Lifestyle

Adopting a greener lifestyle saves the planet and saves you money as well – so really, it’s a win-win situation here!  With a few ideas, a little nudge, a little getting used-to and you’re all well on your way to going green.

protect man

Accountable for our own actions

Considering that the effects of climate change are undeniably being felt around the world today, it’s about time we start getting ourselves accountable for our own actions (or shall we say non-action?).

It’s true that the world continues to change and will continue evolving, but the way we callously living on this planet is a big contributing factor in accelerating these changes in ways that are putting so many lives in peril.

What you may be doing (or not doing) right now may seem like a small fraction considering the current state of our environment but remember that big changes starts from small actions.  A movement comes from the collective effort to create such changes.

A simple effort to go greener will come a long way in saving our planet – that is for sure.

Green living tips for a greener lifestyle

So, are you ready?  Here are a few tips to get you started on your green transformation:

Be wary of your energy consumption

  • Mind the lights whenever you vacate a room. Make it a habit to turn off the lights once you leave a room, better yet, make use of natural lights!
  • Turn your appliances off when not in use.  Turning the ‘off’ switch oftentimes just puts it on standby mode – see that red and or green light?  You have to unplug it.
  • Use the washing machine or dishwasher wisely.  Make sure that your laundry/dirty dishes are enough to fit one loading.  Seriously, if it’s just a piece or two, you better just hand wash it.
  • Opt for energy saving appliances whenever possible, it may cost a little more at first but it’ll save you more money in the long run.

Save water

  • Consider using pail or bucket when cleaning your car.
  • Take shorter shower, it’ll save you water and energy for the heater as well.
  • As mentioned above, use your washing machine and dish washer wisely, one loading of these appliances consume so much water.
  • Make it a habit to shut close faucets when not in use ‘yet’ say for example when brushing your teeth – you don’t have to keep the water running as you brush your teeth.

Use your car sparingly

  • Take any chance you can get to just ‘walk’ or even run.  It’s healthier, saves you gas and spare the air of pollutants as well.
  • Consider taking public transportation or taking a lift instead.
  • Bicycle! Turn into biking!

Smart eating

  • Buy from your local farmer’s market
  • Opt for organically grown produce – it’s healthier both for you and the environment!
  • Make use of your kitchen, cook your own food!

Shop wisely

  • Buy only when you really have to.
  • Consider garage sales or buying secondhand products online.
  • Opt for products made from recyclable materials.

Skip bottled waters

  • Invest in a good water purifier instead.
  • Bring your water canister/jug wherever you go.

Recycle, reduce, reuse

  • Make it a habit.  Throwaways or disposable items sound convenient but recycling, reducing and reusing is way cooler!!!
  • Opt for recyclable materials, skip plastics.  Remember, plastics are forever, they don’t biodegrade.
  • Make use of your creativity and think outside the box – what may seem like a trash may not after all a trash yet!

Art Education and Your Children’s Development

Although a lot of focus and attention are directed with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) we should also stressed the importance of art education in our children’s development.

Through art education, basic skills are developed which will better prepare them as they take on the different fields of learning when they grow up.  Shaping their minds and encouraging them to explore their own capabilities and interests will equip them with the right mindset to make decisions as they embark upon their own future.

Exposure to art education

Studies have showed that early exposure to visual art, music, or drama encourages brain activity which promotes creativity.  Through art education children are thought to express themselves in ways they are more comfortable with, be it through painting, dancing or reciting poems or singing.  It breaks the language barrier not just with the little ones who are not yet equipped with the vocabularies but even with school age children that are having a hard time communicating themselves through language.  Suffice to say, art is indeed a way of expression.  It’s where children could learn how to become creative and communicative in non-verbal ways.

Being exposed to art education, these children develop a sense of self-confidence.  They are given validation for being able to perform or create an art piece.  It doesn’t necessarily have to mean that they’ve come up with an exceptional piece or performance.  Aside from the fact that such an opinion is basically subject to different perception, we have to understand that as MaryAnn Kohl, puts it – art is a process, not a product.

“Where art is concerned, it is the process of creating — exploring, discovering, and experimenting — that has the greatest value. Through self-expression and creativity, children’s skills will develop naturally, and their ability to create will soar.” – MaryAnn Kohl, award-winning author, publisher and educational consultant.

 art education 2

Developing skills through art education

Through art education, children are thought the value of perseverance and the ability to focus.  They learn to figure out things on their own eventually.  Like for instance, ‘this is not the color I’m aiming for, what should I mix it with to achieve what I want,’ or ‘my popsicle sticks are falling apart what would hold them together more firmly.’

Art education also has an impact on our children’s social and emotional skills. They can learn how to be patient and compare that to the consequences of being the opposite.  For instance,  ‘I really should let this painting dry completely before I proceed or I’ll ruin it like the last time,’  or ‘I really should attend practice today to make sure our group will perform well.’

art education 4

Art education teaches our children to be appreciative of other children’s works and abilities in general.  It teaches them the value of responsibility, and become considerate and respectful of other individuals as well.

While Science, Technology, Engineering and Math are no doubt important areas our youths should be educated on, let us keep in mind that art education also plays a role in shaping our youths today.

Is Working From Home Overrated?

Image courtesy of photostock / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

While there are those who would refuse to consider working from home or working at home a ‘legit’ job, there are also those who think of it like it’s the coolest thing on earth!  And why not, you get to work even if you don’t go to work, errr that is because you technically work from home. Nonetheless, it does seem like it’s a cool thing, right?

Working from home can really be that cool and obviously it does have its perks, but don’t get carried away just yet.  The very idea of working from home may give some people the notion of having the ‘luxury’ of free time.  Like you can work only when or sometimes even where you want to – say start the work on Tuesdays instead of the dreaded Mondays, or work while enjoying the beach or hanging out at Starbucks for instance.  Or work only if you feel like it. Well, not quite the case.

I’m sorry to burst your bubble but if you’re serious about working from home, you will have to look at it as what it’s supposed to be – work.  It’s still work, you only get to do it at home or somewhere else instead of the office and it just so happens that you don’t have a boss breathing down your neck but then again, it’s still work.

Working from home, whether you have your own home business or online business, or  you’re still working for a company and only given the option to work from home, does not necessarily mean that you can work only when you want to.

If you’re working for a company – you still need to answer to someone, probably, a higher authority that you need to report to.  So frankly, you can’t just say I don’t have it yet cause I don’t feel like working yet.  I don’t think that will fly well to anyone who’s counting on you about something.

If you have your own home business – you are responsible for the success of such and your work attitude will readily reflect on your business’ standing.  Not to mention that you’ll have to deal with other people as well in the course of your business and such will require commitment as well.

Image courtesy of digitalart / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Sure, you can work only when you want to.

As long as you’re meeting deadlines or delivering results then you can very well work only when you want to.  But the reality is that you’re going to need a strong sense of dedication if you really want to succeed at working from home.  Of course that is if you’re planning to really choose it over your ‘regular work’ and that you intend to make a living out of it.

The truth is that there will be days that even if you don’t feel like working, you simply have to, because the bottom line is that you have to be responsible –yes, even when working at home.

Sure you can reschedule the things that needed to be done, push some of it so you could have your free time to relax, go out or simply to give in to your ‘not-up-for-it’ mood.  But caution should be taken, because giving in to this habit of pushing things off may result to an overwhelming work load and cramming in the end that could very well contribute to stress.

Work while lounging at the beach.

Sounds pretty cool, huh!  Well, it’ll be a stretch to do this.  Sure you can check your email and stuff while you’re on vacation (the wonders of internet and gadgets, I know!), but seriously, work while on the beach?  Isn’t the whole purpose of being on the beach is to relax?  So why would you want to work?  I doubt if your brain will even cooperate with the idea of ‘working’ when it’s obviously on vacation mode – given the feel of sand under your feet, the sun on your face, the smell of the ocean…you know the works.

Working from home does give you the flexibility to work outside of the office, given of course that you have your laptop and all.  As the name implies, work at home, basically, you’re creating an office right at your home.  So the idea of working while on the beach or while hanging out at Starbucks sounds a little impractical.

When you’re out and about, of course there will be distractions, there will be certain limitations (your laptop may not have all the files you need because it’s on your desktop at home), not to mention that the whole idea of going out or vacationing is to relax if not to socialize!

Sure, you can check, keep up with the on goings and attend to urgent cases – while on the beach or wherever.  But work like seriously work?  Hmmm, haven’t you had enough working to do at home since you’re working from home?

Discovering the Vibrant Streets of San Francisco

mural 2

You never know what could happen when you hit the streets of San Francisco! San Francisco is simply overflowing with artists – painters, sculptors, dancers, musicians!

Nothing says that better than this video. Walking around I ran into Wayne, local celebrity and musician who claims to be able to play any instrument! He let me join in as he sang his song for us in front of this beautiful mural.

He is really amazing, wonderful voice, wonderful personality!  And what about that mural –   badass artwork right there, right?

I really love my leisurely walks around my neighborhood – to be quite frankly, it has become some sort of therapy for me.  I’m finding balance in me whenever I spend time with nature, walking along the beach.

Or I’m reconnecting to my passion in arts whenever I bump into artists like Wayne here or see artworks like these amazing murals.

This is the beauty of having the freedom to live life the way you want it.  You don’t miss the good stuff, the really beautiful things and amazing people that surround you.

It is indeed a beautiful world, sometimes we’re just too caught up with making a living that we have forgotten how to really live.

So, this life I have now?  This is my dream life, having the freedom to empower myself without being restricted by ‘lack’ of time or opportunity.

Tips for Living an Eco-friendly Lifestyle

eco-friendly lifestyleImage courtesy of nokhoog_buchachon / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

It would not take too much to adapt an eco-friendly lifestyle, I believe that awareness and education is the key here.  With the advancement of technology our life style changes as well.  From all gadgets and appliances imaginable to newly invented products aimed to make life even more ‘comfortable’ for us.  While we’re choosing ease and comfort ability all the time we’re also harming our planet by leaving carbon footprints with the energy we’re using and trash we’re producing.

Ways to start an eco-friendly lifestyle

green livingImage courtesy of Stuart Miles / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

You don’t have to go green all the way all at once, that may overwhelm you and your family and may even result to abandoning the plan all together.  It’s preferable to start small and let yourselves adjust and adapt to the new ways and then gently introduce new green ways from there.

First off, be wary of the disposable items you’re using at home.  From cups to papers to coffee stirrers.  These will accumulate in time and you wouldn’t imagine how much trash this planet will have to deal with from your family’s garbage alone.  You don’t have to eliminate the use of disposable altogether, but let’s say limit using those when you’re out on picnics, when you’re home, make use of your glassware or silverware instead.

Opt for fluorescent light bulbs over incandescent light bulbs.  It may cost more than the latter but you’ll notice the significant decrease in your family’s energy consumption.

Use a water purifier instead of buying bottled water.  You pay for your utility bills so why not make the most of it.  Why pay water bill and then add bottled water to your weekly groceries?  Bring refillable jugs wherever you go so that you won’t have to buy bottled water when you’re out and about.  To give you an idea, line up those empty water bottles in your backyard for one week and see how much trash you have accumulated for that week alone.

Although replacing your appliances with energy saving ones will cost you now, in the long run you’ll benefit from the dollars you’ll be able to save from electricity bills.  Having said that, you don’t have to replace all appliances right this moment especially when you don’t have the budget for that, when one appliance broke make sure that you’ll buy a new one with energy saving features.

Develop a habit of scheduling task to conserve water and energy.  Say for example; have a day designated for washing so that you’ll maximize its use rather than running it whenever you feel like doing the laundry.  Imagine having 4-6 pieces of clothing inside a washing machine with the same amount of water and electricity consumption as you would when running it full load.  The same goes for your dishwasher.  If you only have two or three pieces of dishes to wash, hand wash it instead.

living an eco-friendly lifestyleImage courtesy of tongdang / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Always turn off appliances that are not in used and better yet pull the plug off.  Even if you turned off the TV for example, the little light that you can see still consumes energy.  It may seem very minimal but imagine if millions of TV owners would do that, then it becomes substantially important.  Make it habit to turn off the light as soon as you leave a room.  Open your windows and make use of natural lights whenever you can.

Use eco-friendly bags when shopping and try to limit your plastic bag usage as much as possible.  This may come very bothersome to a lot of people but trust me it does becomes easier as you get used to it.  Soon enough you’ll be offering your own bag to put your groceries into rather than the clerk putting it in another plastic bag.

Support your local farmer’s market and buy their produce.  You’ll not just benefit from consuming organic foods but will also support your farmer’s choice of not using chemicals to boosts their harvest and compete with big companies’ produce.

Always opt for all natural products whenever you can.  Start from using natural deodorizer instead of buying the chemically enhanced ones.  Lemons and vinegar is a great natural deodorizer.

Eco-friendly lifestyle is a choice

These tips are just some of the ideas on how to gradually adapt an eco-friendly lifestyle.  You can research or ask friends and colleagues about their own eco-friendly tips that may work for you as well.  Remember that this lifestyle is a choice.  And making this choice is so much easier when you are aware.  As an empowered woman, I try to create as much awareness and reach out to as much people as I can to help protect this planet.

Earth is our only home, the same home that we’re going to leave to our children’s children and their future generations.  Start today and make your choice to live an eco-friendly lifestyle.

Here’s my video enjoying a time out adoring the beauty of nature:

How to Become the Super Mom!

936326_10151363845885686_916352306_n

Being told that you’re a Super Mom is perhaps every mother’s dream (I know there are those who’d prefer to be the cool mom instead – I actually prefer to be both!), but how exactly do you become one?

Others may think of a super mom as someone who simply have it together – squeaky clean house, well-behaved kids, a career perhaps, or a working mom on top of the gazillion task at home. Now that sounds very ideal – you’re pretty rocking it if you can do all these, right?

Well, the truth of the matter is that super moms were once humans, too.  You know, before the super-ness and all that stuff. I say a super mom is someone who perseveres, someone that is resilient, someone who’s not afraid to make changes if she has to.

Messy, Wacky, Loud

Sure, we all want a regally clean and orderly house, but do a super mom ceases to become one simply because she misses a few spots?  Or because the kids’ toys are on the floor?  Or because the towels are damp and not properly hanged in the bathroom?  One thing is for sure, if you have kids, it could get really messy; in fact it’s bound to happen!  After all, the most fun you’ll have with your kids is when things are messy, the messier, the better – arts and crafts and food and stuff, right?

Now, what about raising kids?  Do we really have a manual for this?  You can always heed your own mom’s advice or your friends’ advice…perhaps even use a trick or two from those reality shows.  But kids are simply unique – that I’m pretty sure about.  You can’t force them to fit into a certain mold.  You have to be open with different parenting style that will work best for your child.

Sure, you wanted your son or daughter to be super behaved, well-mannered and all that, but barking orders every couple of second is not an assurance that they will do what they’re being told.

You may say that you want to be the cool mom and just let them do whatever they want – give them the freedom to become who they are.  Sure, that’s cool, too.  But that could get tricky as well.  For one, they’re kids, they need rules, in as much as they think otherwise – they want rules.

At the end of the day we want nothing but the best for them.  We’re ultimately the ones to decide if our parenting style is working for their own good (and not just so we could project an image of some sort).

I say, a super mom needs to be okay with changes, with variations and with a little experimentation as well when it comes to child rearing.  A super mom is willing to accept when something is not working for the child – even if it does make you look so cool.  After all, mother knows best, right? Hmmm, let’s just say, we all try to know what’s best and we try to give it our best.

Job: Professional MOM

Does your merit of being a super mom lessens because you’re not working aka ‘stay at home mom’?  Of course not!!!  People have different opinions about being a stay at home mom – there are even those who would question the difficulty of staying at home when you’re literally ‘just’ at home?  Well, let’s just say, they simply don’t know what they’re talking about.  They probably should try it and themselves and then perhaps then they’ll be more considerate next time.

Being a SAHM is no joke.  There are those who simply knew that they wanted to do it, be a SAHM.  Then there are those that under some circumstances would have to become one.  Then there are still those who feel like there are really no other choices.  Granted, whatever your case may be – being a SAHM is not a walk in the park.  It’s hard, yes, but it’s very rewarding as well.

You earned your right to be called the super mom if you can truly embrace being a SAHM – forget the haters, I’m pretty sure they have their own issues themselves, lol!

You’re a WAHM, are you a super mom then?

Of course, we also have the ‘work at home moms,’ mothers who can still balance house chores, child rearing and working.  That will be pretty awesome if you can truly manage all these.  But let’s not forget about the reality that sometimes, it may be true that you’re working at home but you’re mind isn’t really at home.

There are WAHMs who are so absorbed and stressed out with their work that they have completely forgotten the whole idea of working at home is to be actually ‘home’ with the kids. It’s very tricky right?  You might think you’re a super mom since after all you’re working at home – well, not quite the case when you’re merely using your home as an office.  Especially when you started seeing your kids as housemates who pretty much fend for themselves while you work, work, and work some more.

Again, to become a super mom, you have to be open with changes – be willing to work a ‘workable’ schedule that will suit your being a mother and being a working mom.  You have to persevere – it may seem hard or uncomfortable or impossible but nevertheless, try.  You have to be resilient – bad days will happen, sometimes more often than we would expect it, but then again shake it off and move on – just keep pushing, keep trying.

What’s Up With Working Online?

It’s not surprising now a days to find stay at home moms that are choosing to work as well, hence, work at home moms.  Whether it’s to augment the family’s income or to boost confidence and personal development, I personally think it’s a great way to make motherhood even more interesting.

Putting the welfare of the children and of the family is of course always the priority.  But it doesn’t mean that we should let the opportunity to grow pass us by because we’re so focused at being a mom and a wife.

It does help tremendously to accomplish something – help with the family’s finances or affect changes to other people’s lives or even professional growth – to feel validation that you can be more than what you’ve previously thought you can be.

wahm work online Image courtesy of Gualberto107 / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Why more and more WAHM are online?

Why, basically because technology is becoming more and more accessible and the internet world, undeniably, is here to stay.  Opportunities are being presented in a way that makes online job and or online business a possibility and a doable venture that even stay at home moms can invest into.

Contrary to what we used to think about working online – that only computer savvy people or those who are very well verse about computers can actually work online – today, if you have a computer and an internet connection, you’re off to a good start.

The computer and the internet is only your tools to actually work ‘on line’ but the skills you have – writing, organizing, designing, marketing, etc –  is still what you basically offers.  For instance, you’re good at writing.  You can then look for people who needs help with writing articles or perhaps reviews and offer them your services.  There are lots of freelancing sites where you can create your account and look for every job imaginable.

sahm work onlineImage courtesy of Michal Marcol / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

You can also keep in touch with your passion, say baking or crafts, and then market it online.  Social media, Facebook, Tweeter, Tumblr, etc. is one of the most effective ways to get your stuff out there.  You can start website or blogs and really develop an online presence for your chosen passion.

Now, you may say you’re not into that kind of stuff – you don’t bake, you’re not exactly crafty and you’re not good at writing.  No worries, because you can always try affiliate marketing.  With affiliate marketing, you are basically the bridge between the costumers and the product and or services.  You provide the link to people where they can get what they’re looking for and you then get paid for affecting such a sale.  Internet marketing may sound very complicated at first, but trust me, it’s something that you can really learn even by yourself (well, of course with the help of web research).

How much money are we talking about?

Well, it depends really on how much time are you willing to invest and which online business are you going for.  Just like any businesses, success varies.  If you really put your mind into it, work hard, invest time and even money, working online can be a good source of income.

Working online is quite perfect for stay at home moms because quite frankly, they don’t have to literally leave the house.  So, it’s a perfect way to still be the stay at home mom – always there for the kids – and earn extra money for the family as well.
